GNU grep, egrep a fgrep

"grep" je nástroj k prohledávání textových souborů. Může být použit z příkazového řádku nebo ve skriptech. I když nevíte jak jej použít, jiné balíky a programy vašeho systému to opravdu vědět budou.

Rodina GNU grep nástrojů "nejrychlejší na západě". GNU grep pracuje algoritmem "fast lazy-state deterministic matcher" (asi dvakrát rychlejší než běžný Unixový egrep) kombinované s Boyer-Moore-Gosper vyhledávacím algoritmem řetězců pevné délky, jež eliminuje nežádoucí text hned zpočátku a tím se vyhne prohledávání regulárního výrazu ve všech znacích. Ve výsledku je typicky mnohokrát rychlejší než Unixový grep nebo egrep. (Regulární výrazy, které obsahují zpětné reference avšak poběží podstatně pomaleji)
