GNU grep, egrep és fgrep

A 'grep' egy segédeszköz szöveg keresésére fájlokban; parancssorból és parancsfájlból használható. Mégha te nem is fogod hassználni, más csomagok a rendszereden minden bizonnyal fogják.

A grep segédeszközök GNU változata talán a "leggyorsabb grep-ek a nyugaton". A GNU grep alapja egy gyors ?lazy-state? determinisztikus összehaszonlító (kb. kétszer olyan gyors, mint a hagyományos Unix egrep) összhozva egy Boyer-Moore-Gosper féle fix karakterlánc kereséssel, ami a teljes szöveg összehasonlítása nélkül meg tudja állapítani, hogy a keresett rész benne van-e. Az eredmény többször gyorsabb, mint egy Unix grep vagy egrep. (Viszont a vissza-hibatkozó szabványos kifejezések lassabban fognak futni)
