프로그램 xd는 스마트한 디렉토리 체인저 프로그램입니다. 초기 문자 또는 초기 문자 일부분만을 통해서 디렉토리를 변경할 수 있습니다. 예. 'xd ulb' -> 'chdir /usr/local/bin'
xd는 대부분의 쉘에서 제공하는 표준 탭-파일이름 완성 기능과 함께 사용할 수 있습니다. 그러나 xd는 사용하기가 매우 수월하기 때문에 현재 디렉토리에서 먼곳 으로 이동한다면 xd에 빠르게 빠져들 것 입니다. xd 사용 이후에 요구되는 작은 변경은 실제로 명령 쉘에서 제공하는 기능을 사용해서 수행하게 됩니다.
여러개 선택이 가능한 경우, xd는 관련키를 누르는 것 만으로 옵션을 선택할 수 있는 대체 목록을 제공합니다. 사용자에 의해서 절대로 선택되지 않는 디렉토리 들은 xd 설정파일에 지시문을 사용해서 무시할 수 있습니다.
