Common Test는 자동화 테스트를 위한 포터블 어플리케이션입니다. 이 프로그램은 모든 형태 (예, 반드시 Erlang으로 구현되지는 않음)의 대상 시스템에서 블랙박 스 테스팅 뿐만 아니라 Erlang/OTP 프로그램의 화이트 박스 테스팅에도 적합합니 다. 블랙 박스 테스팅은 표준 인터페이스 (SNMP, HTTP, Corba, Telnet등과 같은) 를 통해서 수행되며 만약 필요하다면 사용자 지정 인터페이스 (종종 테스트 포트 라 불립니다)를 통해서도 수행될 수 있습니다. ErlangTOP 프로그램의 화이트 박 스 테스팅은 테스트 케이스 함수에서 직접 대상 API 함수를 호출함으로 쉽게 수 행됩니다. Common Test는 또한 Erlang/OTP 프로그램의 코드 커버리지 분석을 위 한 OTP 커버 도구의 사용을 통합합니다.
