Il server NSCA-ng rende il file comando Icinga accessibile da sistemi remoti. Ciò permette di inviare risultati di controlli passivi, tempi di non disponibilità di servizio e molti altri comandi a Icinga.
La comunicazione con il server è cifrata con TLS e autenticata usando chiavi precedentemente condivise (come da RFC 4279). Il server NSCA-ng gestisce password specifiche per client e controllo dettagliato delle autorizzazioni.
