Questo è un demone per ricevere ed elaborare i log dal kernel Linux, come emessi su una rete dal modulo netconsole del kernel. Gestisce sia il vecchio formato "datato" solo testo, sia il nuovo formato esteso aggiunto nella v.4.4.
La parte principale del demone non fa altro a parte processare messaggi ed emetterli: per poter rendere utile il demone, l'utente deve fornire uno o più "moduli di output". Questi moduli sono file oggetto condivisi che espongono una piccola ABI che viene chiamata da netconsd con i contenuti e i metadati dei messaggi netconsole ricevuti.
