Blueprint è un sistema di metacompilazione che legge file Blueprint che descrivono i moduli che devono essere compilati e produce un manifesto Ninja che descrive i comandi che devono essere eseguiti e le loro dipendenze. Mentre la maggior parte dei sistemi di compilazione usa regole incorporate o linguaggi specifici del dominio per descrivere la logica per convertire le descrizioni dei moduli in regole di compilazione, Blueprint delega tutto ciò alla logica di compilazione di ogni progetto, scritta in Go. Per progetti grandi ed eterogenei, ciò permette di mantenere la complessità intrinseca della logica di compilazione in un linguaggio di alto livello, mentre permette ancora le semplici modifiche ai singoli moduli modificando file Blueprint facili da capire.
