Questo programma è fondamentalmente un server TFTP minimalista. Tuttavia, come cosa aggiuntiva, inoltra le richieste che non possono essere servite ad un backend HTTP configurabile.
Questo è molto utile in una rete in cui il server TFTP reale è relativamente distante: a causa del semplice disegno progettuale di TFTP, già 40 ms di latenza hanno come risultato prestazioni molto scarse, tftp-proxy può ridurle alla velocità della rete.
In aggiunta le richieste possono essere dirette ad un server HTTP con cache.
