converte i fine riga delle righe dei file di testo tra i formati Unix e DOS

Il programma converte i fine riga delle righe dei file di testo tra i formati MS-DOS e *nix. Rileva i file binari in maniera quasi infallibile e li lascia stare a meno di non forzarlo. Lascia stare anche i file che sono già nel formato giusto e preserva le marcature temporali dei file. Le interruzioni da parte dell'utente sono gestite in maniera pulita e non vengono lasciati in giro spazzatura o file corrotti.

Il programma non converte i file in un diverso set di caratteri e non può gestire i fine riga dei vecchi Apple Macintosh che usano solo CR. Per fare ciò (e altro) si può usare il programma "recode" (pacchetto "recode").
