Slirp è un emulatore TCP/IP che trasforma un account di shell ordinario in un account (C)SLIP/PPP. Questo permette agli utenti della shell di usare tutte le applicazioni Internet particolari come Netscape, Mosaic, CUSeeMe, ecc.
Notare che forse al proprio ISP potrebbe davvero non piacere l'uso di slirp, perché vorrebbe ricaricare di più per una connessione ppp, per questo è da usarsi a proprio rischio.
