libdb è una libreria sviluppata a Berkeley per manipolare i file di database.

Supporta tre tipi di formati di file:

 * btree, una rappresentazione di una struttura ad albero ordinato e
   bilanciato.
 * hashed, un meccanismo di hash estensibile e dinamico.
 * nello stile dei file di UNIX, un flusso di byte con record di lunghezza
   fissa o variabile.

Questa libreria esiste per compatibilità con le applicazioni compilate con glibc 2.0 o 2.1. Non esiste, intenzionalmente, un pacchetto equivalente per lo sviluppo. Non linkare nuove applicazioni a questa libreria!
