Il protocollo HTP (HTTP Time Protocol) viene usato per sincronizzare l'orario di un computer usando i server web come fonte di riferimento. Questo programma può essere usato al posto di ntpdate o simili, nelle reti che hanno un firewall che blocca la porta NTP.
Htpdate sincronizza l'orario del computer con il GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), usando le marcature orarie delle intestazioni HTTP nelle risposte dei server web (per ottenere le informazioni viene usato il metodo HEAD).
Htpdate funziona attraverso server proxy. L'accuratezza di htpdate è di solito entro i 0,5 secondi (ed è meglio con più server).
