Chrootuid rende facile l'esecuzione di un servizio di rete con un livello basso di privilegi e con accesso ristretto al file system. I demoni hanno accesso solamente al proprio albero di directory e sono eseguiti con un userid con pochi privilegi.

Nel passato è stato usato per eseguire la rete gopher e www (world-wide web). Al giorno d'oggi può anche essere usato per server proxy. Questa configurazione riduce di molto l'impatto di possibili vulnerabilità nel software di rete.
