Kdeinit er en procesopstarter, som lidt svarer til den kendte init brugt for opstart af UNIX.
Den starter processer ved at forgrene og så indlæse et dynamisk bibliotek, som skal indeholder en »kdemain(...)«-funktion.
Brug af kdeinit til at starte KDE-programmer gør start af et typisk KDE-program 2,5 gange hurtigere (100 ms i stedet for 250 ms på en P-III 500). Programmet reducerer hukommelsesforbrug med cirka 350 Kb per program.
