Auto Nice Daemon aktiverer sig selv i bestemte intervaller og renicer (ændrer den planlagte prioritet for en eller flere kørende processer) jævnfør deres prioritet og cpu-forbrug. Job ejet af root undgås. Job bliver aldrig øget i prioritet.
Renice-intervallerne kan også justeres sammen med standardniveauet for nice og aktivationsintervallerne. En prioritetdatabase lagrer bruger/gruppe/job-tupler sammen med deres renice-værdier for tre cpu-forbrugstidsintervaller. Negative nice-niveauer fortolkes som signaler der skal sendes til en proces, udløst af cpu-forbrug; på denne måde, kan Netscapes der går amok dræbes automatisk. Strategien for søgning i prioritetdatabasen kan konfigureres.
